History
Progressive Temple Beth
Ahavath Sholom is a consolidation of two synagogues, Temple Beth Ahavath Sholom
and Borough Park Progressive Synagogue. Together we embrace the shared and proud
union of two long-standing congregations, led by our newly selected spiritual
leader, Rabbi Garson Herzfeld.
Mission
Our mission is to
worship God in accordance with the faith of Judaism; to cultivate a love and
understanding of Jewish heritage; to stimulate friendship in the Jewish
community, and to strengthen the bonds of loyalty with the Jewish people
everywhere; to bring near the love of God through an emphasis of the principles
of righteousness and humanity.
We are a caring
congregation. You don't just join PTBAS-- you become a part of our extended
family. We are here to share in you joyous occasions, as well as support you
during your times of need.
Social Action at
Progressive Temple Beth Ahavath Sholom
ProgressiveTemple Beth Ahavath
Sholom is dedicated to the prophetic call to do tikkun olam, repair of
the world. We run an ongoing Food Pantry to serve the needs of those who are
hungry in our community; have conducted blood drives, letter-writing campaigns to our
legislators, walk-a-thons, a health fair, lectures and panel discussions on
issues of concern.

Since this is a history page of
both temples, pre and post consolidation, I would appreciate hearing
from anyone who may have some insight as to the history of Boro Park
